Project Description

Waterbury Development Corporation challenged us with designing the restoration of City Hall and relocation of the Fire Headquarters. The project required us to maintain the building’s early 20th century charm while providing the city’s government with the conveniences and safety requirements of the 21st century facility.

We wanted to provide the various departments working in the building with more modern, functional spaces as well as focus on careful restoration of the architectural and historically significant aldermanic chambers and public hearing rooms on the second floor.

The exteriors and facades to be restored included marble cornices and balustrades, ornamental masonry and leaded glass. Additionally, new roofs, windows and doors were installed.

Since the building is a state landmark, the restoration work was done in compliance with the State of Connecticut Historical Preservation Office.
