| Project Description
The challenge was to design a high school and vocational agricultural center to serve 1600 students in grades nine through twelve. The city voters decided on a site of approximately 128 acres. The design contained a 283,000 sq ft high school, 26,000 sq ft Vo-Ag center, and full athletic facilities. Special consideration had to be taken in the demolition of maintenance facilities and the Woodrow Wilson Middle School (which was moved to the previous high school). The Building Committee wanted the new building to both reflect the spirit and history of the community as well as the functionality and use of the structure. Early on in the project, DeCarlo & Doll, Inc. agreed to focus on the U.S. Green Building, LEED strategies. During the design, our architects and engineers focused on ways to save energy, utilize low-impact materials and create a structure that was healthy and functional for its inhabitants and surroundings. |
